Signing Up with Crazy Domains — What We Found

Visit Crazy Domains

Crazy Domains is an international hosting brand with a New Zealand–facing portal and NZD pricing. Rather than being NZ-owned and operated, Crazy Domains is run by the US-based Newfold Digital.

For our testing, we signed up for Crazy Domains’s WordPress Hosting Economy plan on the NZ site, walked the broader hosting catalogue, and ran our standard WordPress benchmarks. Here’s what we found.

The Crazy Domains signup story

Finding the right cheap hosting product on the Crazy Domains website took more hunting than most hosts. Their NZ site nests Web Hosting, WordPress Hosting, VPS and more under one busy Hosting menu, so it’s easy to land on Linux shared plans when you actually want WordPress Hosting.

In the end we signed up for Crazy Domains’s WordPress Hosting Economy plan.

The checkout was workable, but a paid Advanced SSL feature was added to the cart by default. This cart stuffing is easy to miss if you’re not watching the order total. Pricing also jumped between AUD and NZD from page-to-page.

Also worth noting that the minimum term on the WordPress Hosting Economy plan was three months, not monthly. On that train of thought, it’s worth watching out for annual pricing discounts, which Crazy Domains applies by default. As soon as you change from annual payments to 3-monthly payments (their smallest renewal option), the quoted price increases.

Once we’d got through the checkout, we confirmed the server location to be in Australia (verified origin IP 74.91.195.28). It’s certainly closer to New Zealand than US/Europe options, but it’s not Auckland. Expect a bit more latency for NZ visitors than a local host would offer, though less than GoDaddy’s North America footprint. Under the hood you get to use cPanel, with Crazy Domains’ own dashboard layered around it. Staging is available on the Economy plan, and PHP versions from 7.4 through 8.5 are listed.

Once we’d installed WordPress, we ran PHP Vitals (A+) and WP Benchmark (8.8 / 10), one of the highest combined scores in our current table.

WP Benchmark 8.8 / 10 2026-08-28

PHP Vitals grade screen from our test run — A+ in 4.69s.
WP Benchmark composite score from the same environment — 8.8 / 10.

Crazy Domains ranks strongly on our table, with benchmarks scoring (A+ / 8.8), ahead of MyHost (A− / 8.2) and well clear of Hostinger, GoDaddy, and Hoopla. Strong compute and WordPress micro-benchmarks from the Australian environment.

If you’re happy with Australian servers and the NZ portal’s checkout quirks, this should get you good performance for WordPress sites. If you value New Zealand latency and local ownership, you may still want to look elsewhere.
